Jerome P. Kearby Rites Held Sunday at Wills Point
Jerome P. Kearby died Friday night after a three day illness. Services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Methodist Church Wills Point with burial at White Rose Cemetery after Masonic rites. He practiced law in multiple Texas cities and served as Tarrant county legal advisor 1930 to 1938. Survivors include his wife five daughters two sons and numerous relatives.

The Marathon Service Station at Wise and Smythe streets began operation July 1 under new manager H. L. Standridge who bought the business from Allen Blackmon. Standridge, with assistant Roy Raby, offers greasing washing waxing and polishing and invites locals to visit. His wife and 9 year old daughter Dorothy have moved to Bowie.

New Oil Well To Be Drilled At Bowie Ranch Site
Twelve truckloads of drilling equipment were moved to the J A Brite ranch near Bowie for Wilson & Liggon Drilling Co of Wichita Falls to drill a new oil well 500 feet east of the abandoned Montague Oil Co location. The old hole reached 4282 feet with favorable showing. the derrick was moved and a diesel engine will power the new rig.

Bowie Volunteers battle fire at Jack Ryan's Cafe
The Bowie Volunteer Fire Department answered a 2:35 pm call to Jack Ryan's Cafe on Wise Street where a blaze started in living quarters behind the cafe. The fire damaged the building owned by D. C. Overfelt but did not spread to nearby structures after pumping with a booster and large pumper. A second alarm sent firefighters to a minor fire at G. C. Reed's.

James Smith age 69 died Tuesday at his home from a heart attack. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Church of Christ with Elder A F Thurman officiating.
