Lutherans To Build Annex To Church On Montague Highway

The Lutheran Church on Montague Highway will add an annex for Sunday School, a larger kitchen, and an office. Building committee members are Albert Roth, Wm Premiger, Herman Husfeld, and Wm Hoeldtke. Rev Carl F Juergensen was recently installed as pastor. Lt Robert Glenn Trout, Bowie native, completed ten months in the Marine Corps at Quantico and earned honors as co captain of the Marine football team.

Bowie Invited to Henrietta Program at First Christian

The MacDowell Club of Bowie sent invitations for an outstanding program to be held in Henrietta at the First Christian Church on Saturday January 29. Henry Edwin Meyer dean of Southwestern University School of Fine Arts will present Folk Hymns and White Spirituals with soprano Vivian Simmons of Ranger Junior College. Bowie music lovers are invited and a large crowd is expected.

Funeral Services Held For Jeff Wolsey 84

Funeral services for Jess W. Wolsey were held in Burgess Chapel on Sunday afternoon January 24. The 84 year old Sunset resident and farmer died recently and was living with his son C L Wolsey of Denver. Revs Pearson and M D Wall conducted the service. Burial was in Salona cemetery. Survivors include one son, one daughter, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. G A Jarrell who died in an El Paso hospital will be held at Prairie Branch near Bowie on Wednesday January 27. She was ill for some time and is the sister of Mrs. R G Guston of Bowie and was reared in the community. She had been living in Separ New Mexico before illness.

Soldier Dale Lemons Returns From Service

Sgt Dale Lemons arrived home Thursday and was discharged from the Marines after 14 months in Korea. He is a Bowie graduate who started at N T S C before enlisting and will resume studies in September.

Bowie News to Replace Times with Weekly Edition

The Mon tague County Times will suspend publication and its news moved to The Bowie News each Thursday. The Bowie News becomes an eight column paper printed on a high speed web press four times larger investment. Subscriptions drop from 3.50 to 3.00 per year after February 1 with a special 2.50 rate through April 1. The Bowie Invitational Tournament will be played this weekend if roads permit, with Santo and Bowie Jackrabbits noted in recent results. Jacksboro visits Bowie Tuesday for a conference game as Temple Tucker led Bowie with 18 points in a 69 49 win.

Glynne Griffin’s Mother Dead in Dallas

Mrs. W. H. Griffin mother of Bowie druggist Glynne Griffin died Sunday night at the Methodist Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are set for ten o clock Tuesday at Dudley funeral home in Dallas. She lived in Bowie years ago when the family ran an appliance store and later moved to Dallas five years ago. She is survived by her husband four daughters and two sons.

National Council of Churches Speaker to Visit Bowie

Rev. Earl N. Kragnes associate director of the NCC committee on Usage and Understanding of the Bible will speak to ministers church women’s groups and others in Bowie on Thursday January 28. The NCC sponsors the program hoping churches will explore inter church projects on Bible use and understanding. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church.

The Rev Bill Davidson of Bowie was ordained to the ministry of the Christian church at Magnolia Christian church in Houston on December 27. He has completed Bachelor of Divinity requirements at T C U and will receive the degree in June. He pastored Bowie’s First Christian Church and plans to return there with Mrs Davidson, who serves as secretary for D H Industrial Supply Co.

The Walther League held a social this Wednesday in the Lutheran Church social room to greet the new pastor Rev. Carl F. Juergensen and his family. Leonard Roth acted as hosts with Miss Edna organizing entertainment and Miss Lois serving refreshments. Members planned Wednesday singing practice and discussed an invite to a February Clara social.
