Paving Contracts Let For More Highways In Bowie Area

State Highway Commission awarded 51 350 to John S Buckner Sons for 3 7 miles from Jacksboro Henrietta No 148 to Postoak. Callon Instruction Co of Waco won 75 203 for 7 miles starting north of Nocona toward Red River county line. Completion next summer for both, with remaining Bowie Newport segment to finish in spring.

Coulsen Oil Discovery in Montague County Draws Attention

One of the region’s largest oil producers is reported on the Coulsen heirs 56 acre tract six miles east of Bowie in Montague County. Bluff Creek Oil Company drilled the Coulsen well in the M A Bone Survey south of the Stewart Lewis field with an estimated 1500 to 2000 barrels per day potential. Initial tests showed rapid gas and oil flow with no water, and a new pay horizon at depth 6386 feet. The well, tied to a long owned family property, marks Bluff Creek’s early successes near the Tony Fenoglio well in the Minor pool. The rig will soon move to a new wildcat on the Naomia Jameson tract north of the old ball park.

Bowie Basketeers Take Area Championship Trophy

Bowie High Basketeers won the Eighth Annual Wichita Falls Jaycee Tournament title defeating Vernon 40 to 35 in overtime after a 32 all regulation. Jackrabbits beat Throckmorton and Henrietta to reach the final, with Wilburn Booher and Monte Robicheaux named to the all tournament team.

Plans For Modern Bowie Hotel Favored By Chamber Members

Dallas investors viewed Bowie as a promising site for a two story modern hotel with fifty rooms and spaces for a beauty parlor bank shop and coffee shop. The $250000 project would be built on Mason and Tarrant owned by Mrs Clara Donald and Miss Suzette Meyer. The plan was discussed at a busy Chamber of Commerce meeting with Jack Slayden Virgil Blair and other directors present.

Burglary Strikes Tip's Milk Bar in Bowie

Tuesday night a burglary at Tip's Milk Bar in Bowie broke in through a rear window. The thief looted the juke box till for about 40 dollars and took 7 or 8 dollars from under the cash register. Several cigarette cartons and jars of apple juice were also stolen. Owner Tip Jimerson found the rear door open Wednesday morning.

Drive For Polio Aid Under Way In Bowie

The March of Dimes drive starts in Bowie under B and P W Club leadership led by Miss Minnie Walker. Mrs. Underwood chairs efforts with local volunteers from wards and the high school, aiming for a $1200 quota.
