Danny Ray Youngblood 21 serving with the U S Marines in the Philippines drowned while scuba diving February 23 off Sangly Point Manila Bay. He was born in Bowie November 4 1947. Underwood announced Bowie cable TV work to start in spring with service ready by August 15 1969 offering 12 channels including four educational UHF channels and Dallas Fort Worth sports. He said the system requires over 800 customers to cover costs.
Coach Willie Brooks takes Bowie Jackrabbits to Ennis for their first meet of the season after a rainout scrimmage in Decatur. Brooks says this year’s depth and limited practice may keep wins fewer than in 1968. cont'd page 7.
Bowie Chamber of Commerce launches an intensive drive for new members this week with a kickoff lunch at the Travel-In Cafe tomorrow at 12:00 noon. President Beverly King of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce will speak and start the drive. The theme is You miss so much when you're on the outside.
Arthur Bobby Windham aged 52 of Bowie died recently after a career as a medical technician. He served in the Navy in World War II and worked 32 years as a laboratory technician at the Bowie Clinic. Windham, born April 24 1916 in Sterling City Texas, is survived by his wife Iona his mother Mrs Winnie Windham a stepson Glynn Elrod and a stepdaughter Gayle. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery Burgess Funeral Home directed.
Bowie high girls basketball beat Burleson 46 to 33 in Denton to move toward the state playoffs. The win comes in a three team playoff after a three way regular season tie for the title.
In May 1928, J P Coleman, a Wellington Texas oil field hauler, was killed near Itasca while working with two employees, Jerry Alexander of Oklahoma and Cliff Hinton near Bowie. Coleman reportedly carried about $800 in cash. on May 2 he deposited $700 of it. The Two men planned to meet in Bowie on May 5 and continue to Wellington then Oklahoma. The cafe owner observed Hinton watching Coleman with a smile as he paid the bill.

The Bowie News reports area schools show limited impact from flu with Nocona noting 220 of 675 students absent on Monday and doors closed briefly. Bellevue notes a recent mump epidemic but current attendance normal. Forestburg canceled Monday and Tuesday with 25 percent absenteeism then resumed Wednesday.
Dan Reeves the college quarterback turned running back for the Dallas Cowboys will be guest of honor at the Jaycee Installation Banquet on March 10, 1965. Wearing No 30 Reeves is known for versatility and big plays and previously gained 757 yards as a sophomore and 603 yards in 1967 with the Cowboys while lining up as a halfback. He works for Gifford Hill in Dallas in the off season.
Slidell and Byers winners of Class B meet in a bi district girls basketball game set for March 3 at 8:00 p.m. in the Jackrabbit gym.
