State Orders Cost Study On 4 Lane Right of Way
State Highway Commission told Montague County leaders a cost study will start immediately to determine funding for right of way for a four lane US 287 through the county. Completion is expected in six to eight weeks with local and state shares to be raised and appropriations sought for construction later. The project could take up to five years to finish. The Bowie community supports keeping the highway in town and will work with the state on the route. Participants included Jack Lovette Don Howard Jack Crain Tom Creighton Bill Sell and others.

Dallas News columnist Wreck Fowler a World War II combat correspondent with the 36th Texas Infantry will be guest speaker at the Maids and Matrons club March 4. He migrated from Austin papers in 194% and soon became the first War Correspondent for a Texas newspaper. He covered Texans in Italy France Germany and then Pacific service with the Navy to report the last eight months of World War II. He will speak in Bowie before the Maids and Matrons Club and their guests the Amity Thursday and Bowie Garden clubs along with the Green Thumb MacDowell and other Maids and Matrons guests.
