Mr and Mrs D H West of Bowie received a message from Italy stating their son Pfe John A West is a prisoner of war. The note adds he was not wounded and is being well treated. West landed in North Africa with U S invasion forces last November and was captured after an ensuing engagement. The War Department had informed the family of his capture January 2 with no further details since.

Nocona Youth Beaten to Death in Roadside Incident
Elgin Boles a 17 year old was found dead with head injuries three miles east of Nocona after a roadside fight early Monday. Sheriff Henley and County Attorney Eckman hunted five alleged participants while an inquest led to a verdict of death from blows to the head.
