Drilling began Wednesday night on the J A Brite well located five miles west of Bowie. After gas line leaks, 1400 feet of new pipe was installed Tuesday. Plan includes 8 percent string casing to 4000 feet and possible reach of Bryson oil sand between 3900 and 4000 feet. If unpromising at that depth, drilling will continue to Marble Falls pay dirt depths 5900 to 6200 feet. Day and night shifts until completion. estimated cost $80000.

Mrs Hattie Smith 39 Died After Long Illness
Mrs. Hattie Smith died Sunday at 5 a.m. at her Bowie home after years of ill health. Funeral services were Monday at 2 p.m. at Burgess Funeral chapel with Rev. George F. Korhegay of the First Methodist Church presiding. She lived in Bowie 17 years, born September 24, 1897 in Hill County, Texas. She married J. C. Smith on December 23, 1919. Survived by her husband three sons Frederick Benjamin Lindy a daughter Kathleen her parents two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Margaret Jane Davidson Wright, longtime Mon tague county resident, dies at her daughter Margaret Lee Wright’s home in Hobart Oklahoma after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held in Hobart and Stoneburg with interment at Adora Cemetery beside her husband who died in 1920. She leaves two daughters Mrs C Stillwell and Margaret Lee Wright both of Hobart, a son Anderson Wright of Stoneburg, twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Body of Mrs. Gifford Buried at Post Oak
Mrs. M. C. Gifford longtime Post Oak resident died at home Monday night aged 80. Services were at Post Oak Baptist Church, with interment in Post Oak Cemetery. She was born July 27, 1861 in Hunt County and married Charles A. Gifford November 14, 1880. Survivors include husband Raymond Gifford of Post Oak and five daughters in law and sons in law.

Highway Commission bids target Montague County paving project
On February 24 the Highway Commission called for bids due March 16 for 11 projects totaling about 1.5 million dollars.
