Mrs. R. C. Cady, patient at Bowie Hospital, suffered a fall on the ice Thursday afternoon February 15. She broke her right hip and right wrist but is said to be improving.
A Go to Church campaign unites eight Bowie churches with laymen coordinating attendance. The sunrise Easter service will be held at Bowie High School Auditorium at daybreak. A follow up meeting hosted by First Baptist is set for next Monday night with plans forming for a Fundamental Baptist Church venue two weeks later.
McDonald Construction Company moved men and machinery into Bowie this week to pave the road to Vashti. Work begins two miles west of Bowie and will hard surface 5.6 miles to the Clay County line. About 4.12 miles of unpaved road remain. paving is planned with Clay county. Contract price is $58,000 and completion is expected by June if weather permits.
Bowie Chamber of Commerce reports 23 new members in recent days as it plans a Dairy Show for May 12. The Dairy Committee will meet March 5 with the board to finalize show plans. Thomas Ayres and others eye a cotton gin project, with the chamber urged to offer support. Marion Bob Posey fills the vacancy from Jess Elliott’s resignation. Ike Parks appoints Johnny Inman Posey and N. B. Gary to the Industrial Committee.
Mrs Eva Giles at the tax office in the Bowie City Auditorium basement announces new automobile and truck license plates available for purchase. Plates must be affixed to all cars by April 1.
G Doc Jackson of the Jackson Department Store and his daughter Mrs Lucille Davis and Mrs Carl Shurtleff were in the Dallas markets Tuesday and bought a large lot of new spring millinery for ladies. The hats are all distinct and a wide range of other merchandise including new piece goods was purchased.
An April 3 city election nears with no candidates filed by March 3. Mayor David M. Major appears unlikely to seek re election yet a draft movement aims to keep him in office for another two years to complete key projects including a sewage disposal plant. Supporters praise the mayor while noting council disagreements as petitions circulate.
Bowie High School Jackrabbits defeated Pleasant Grove 64 to 44 in Denton to win the 11-A 12-A bi district and advance to meet Crowell for the Region 3 crown at Midwestern gym Wichita Falls Saturday night. Monte Robicheaux scored 20 points leading Bowie with James Robinson adding 15. The win follows a 61 to 42 district title over Birdville Buffs.
Texas Company reports no active drilling in Montague County for the first time in over a year. It plans to perforate after removing the rotary rig and notes several other wells in Minor pool Lela Sewell and Queen’s Peak fields, with mixed results and ongoing drilling activity nearby.
The Rural-Urban committee of the Rotary Club plans a dinner on Tuesday night March 20. Each Rotarian will bring one or more farmers as guests. Murray Cox, farm editor of WFAA, will speak and show pictures from a Texas farmers trip to the Pacific Northwest and Canada last summer.
In heavy rains and mud Allied forces flattened Reds bulge in Central Korea and pressed forward on many fronts. General MacArthur visited the front Monday and ordered a general advance. In Washington the Army said it will not call any more National Guard divisions unless world conditions change, keeping them as potential home defense reserves.
The Bowie Merchants Association holds an important meeting at the Chamber of Commerce offices at 5:30 PM Monday. Mrs. Earl Sansom urges full attendance to discuss important and interesting matters scheduled for consideration.

Thirteen Montague County communities begin the 1951 Red Cross drive on March 1 under H S Trout Bowie red cross funds chairman. County quotas total 3760 with 43 8 percent retained locally and 56 2 percent for the national chapter. Harry Whitman Rotary program chairman spoke on Bowie Youth Needs at the club luncheon. He noted a California gambling outfit offered bets on promised winners and a known racketeer stayed in Bowie a week. A youth summer program with local groups was proposed, aiming to improve adult support and combine work with play.
