County farmers are urged to maximize soil building payments under the AAA program. A tabulation shows in 1940 the county had about $44,455 available, with only $24,770 earned. Terracing and contour farming yielded funds, while many farmers did not plant home gardens, missing a chance to cut food costs. Officers report no clues in the attempted burglary of the Sunset Post Office several days ago. It is believed the building was broken into by the same persons who robbed the Forestburg office of about $80 weeks earlier. The Sunset office was entered from the front with locks broken. Three pennies left behind. drawers searched. a citizen saw an intruder flee. Sheriff Dick Lawrence led the investigation.

WPA project begins on Hardy Road in Montague County
A reconstruction project under WPA was begun this week on a three mile section of the Hardy Gaines ville road from Hardy to the county line. Forty workers will be employed for about four months. Clearing and grubbing are largely done. plans call for grading widening culverts drainage ditches and gravel coating to make an all weather road. Work will start on a one mile Hardy community section after this is finished.
