Banks to close on Monday February 23 in observance of Washington's Birthday. Bowie National and First National Bank along with the U S Post Office will be shut for the holiday.

The Tri-County Bar Association comprising Archer Clay and Montague counties organized in Bowie. T B Coffield leads as president with Marvin F London as vice president and Glen Jones as secretary. Bowie Rabbits coach Kenneth Gill outlines a busy early season with meets at Vernon on March 7 Graham on March 14 Weatherford on March 21 Fort Worth on March 28 and Vernon hosts the district meet on April 11.
March 7 notes 65 boys join the Rabbits track program including 25 freshmen. Top prospects include Matlock in the 880 Coffman in the 440 Nichols in the high jump McClintock in the 880 Henson in the 100 and 220 Welch in the 100 and 220. Coach Gill expects depth to help in every meet this year.
An important highway meeting is set for today February 19 at 2 p m in the Gold Room of The Bowie National Bank to present the proposed U S 287 route running south of Bowie and north to the Clay County line. Attendees may submit written statements or exhibits to the highway department within 10 days before final construction steps.
The Bowie Independent School District announces two at large board of trustees vacancies due to retirements of Dwayne Brooks and Ira T Price. Deadline to apply is March 4 ahead of the April 15 election. any registered voter 21+ in the district may seek the seat, though no applications had been received yet.
Don Duncan finished as a finalist in the 1969 70 National Merit Program, placing among about 0.5 percent of high school seniors. He remains in the Merit Scholarship competition as selection proceeds and about 2,800 Merit Scholars will be notified in late March. Bowie High School honors his achievement and looks to his future leadership potential.
John Coffield of Bowie earns a Dean's Honor List spot at Texas Christian University for the 1969 Fall semester. To qualify a student must carry at least 12 semester hours and maintain a 3.5 GPA. A total of 587 TCU students made the lists across AddRan College, Neeley School, Education, Nursing, and Fine Arts.
The Bowie Memorial Hospital Board of Directors met at 7 00 p m on Thursday February 12 at the hospital An expansion program is contemplated and architects were in attendance for discussion of same The board met with architects again on Tuesday February 17 to explore the matter further.

Bellevue Independent School District sets April 4 election to fill two trustee seats. Incumbents Gordon Gill and Billy Don Starnes will run again. Qualifications open to any resident. inquiries directed to Superintendent Benham or Trustee Committee member Marvin Tyson. Other actions include Textbook Committee Report and lunchroom wage increase to minimum wage.
Wanda and Bob Posey hold grand opening of Discount Fashion Samples at 205 Smythe Street in the old Jim Bowie Store. The store offers sample merchandise from Southwest manufacturers at a fraction of retail, with four velvet paintings and four high fashion blouses given away. Open 9 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday.
Bellevue High School girls basketball finished second in District 29 B at Henrietta after beating Byers High School and losing the final to Midway. The Bellevue boys earned the Sportsmanship Trophy at the same district event held February 12 to 14 in Henrietta. Junior High Tournament follows February 19 to 21 in Byers with Bellevue teams participating.
The Bellevue Public Schools announce the contract extension of Bill Henson Jr. for the 1970 71 school year. Henson has served as Principal and teacher for two years and is married to Paula Horton with children Billy Leah and Jeannie. The family attends First Baptist Church of Bellevue.
A L Rusty Atkins will hold a public sale in Bowie on Saturday February 21 at 10 00 a m at 300 Cummins Street from the estate of Dr Jessie Givens. Items include a 195? Packard antique roll top desk and other antiques in a two story rock house opposite the Bowie National Bank. Everything goes to the highest bidder.
The Bowie High School Lady Jack rabbits lost to Rockdale Tigerettes 50 to 38 in a Bi District game at Hillsboro Junior College Gym. Bowie endured a scoreless start 13-0 and finally broke through with a second quarter field goal by Brenda Deweber after a long drought. Phyllis Leek hit a late first quarter free throw to end Bowie’s field goal drought at 13-1.
