Bowie Jackrabbits shown in unusual poses across Texas newspapers. The team, famed for basketball prowess, appears in various athletic shots including atop teammate Tucker and in dressed-up poses, highlighting their standout presence and photogenic appeal.
The Bowie Jackrabbits defeated Jacksboro 108 to 59 to finish the district conference undefeated. Temple Tucker led with 30 points, followed by John Carver 24, Arrington 18, White 16, and Hill 8 as multiple players contributed. Murray led Jacksboro with 15 points as the game closed.
Antelope captured the Class B Bowie Tournament title with a 46 to 62 final against Bellevue after edging Byers 53 to 35 and Bellevue 51 to 50 in earlier games. Bellevue finished runner up, Midway earned the Consolation, and Antelope will advance to the regional Class B tourney in Dallas February 25 26 27.
Former Bowie High School players Monte Robicheaux and Bob Brashear headline Rice University basketball as they push for the Southwest Conference title. Charles McGannon stars for St Ed's Austin in a win over TWC in Fort Worth. Paul Prater also played for TWC.
The Bowie girls teams faced Olney Tuesday. The A team won 46 to 42 led by Mildred McCraw with 16 points. The B team lost 30 to 13 with Betty Andreason scoring 6. The Junior team won 35 to 20 as Linda Campbell led Bowie with 23.
Sunday morning worship begins at 11 o clock with Sunday school at 9 36 for students up to twenty. Wednesday evening services at 7 00. All are welcome to attend. Church building located at 307 West Tarrant.
The Bowie Jackrabbits hold the Texas state record for consecutive championships at three from 1951 to 1953 as interscholastic play evolved from one class to multi-division systems. Nocona and Bowie traded district wins in the 1940s with Bowie reaching multiple state tournaments. Athens owns five state titles. All-State players include Downey, Cleveland, Raley, Prater, Wall, Tucker, McGannon, Arrington, Carver, and Hill.
Bowie varsity girls edged Decatur 61 59 at Eagle Gym to share the district championship as Carol Ann Smith scored 41 and Richardson 14. Bowie’s B team also won providing a Bowie sweep. The playoff to decide the district is set for Monday at 7 30 PM in Bowie Gym.
Bowie’s season results list wins and losses across matches against Springtown Mineral Wells North Dallas Sherman Milby Denison Pleasant Grove Graham Birdville Decatur Santo Jacksboro Nocona Bellevue and others. Milby Birdville Pleasant Grove and Wichita Falls also advanced to district titles as Bowie did.
Obituary from Bowie area: Nora Seitz Lane, formerly of Bowie, died in Roswell New Mexico. She was married to Joel Lane and survived by three daughters. Funeral services were held in Roswell with burial in the Roswell cemetery.
The Bowie B Team defeated Jacksboro 49 to 34. Horace Thompson led scorers with 17 points in a strong showing for Bowie.
The Cottontails were outmatched and lost 31 to 44 to the Jacksboro Juniors. Billy Green and Monte Cooper tied for high scorers with 6 points each.
Bowie High School Jack rabbits travel to Stamford for a district matinee. Stamford clinched the district title and aims for a strong showing. Bowie played a Denton scrimmage with North Texas Freshman, no official score kept. Monday night the Bowie boys attended Mississippi State versus North Texas.
The Vagabond Kings of Detroit led by Bumps Westrum will visit Bowie gym Saturday night February 20 for a razzle dazzle basketball exhibition. They will face a Bowie picked team in a game that promises comedy and high action with all profits going to the Bowie Athletic Fund.

Notable completions include No. 1 Voyle Fowler near Ringgold producing 203 barrels daily and No. 1 Roberts near Stoneburg delivering 155 barrels daily. other tests and potential wells span Priddy Bowie and Bonita areas as Texas producers seek higher March allowances.

Edna Gregory 68 a Bowie resident died at Bowie hospital after heart ailment. She lived in Bowie most of life and was lifelong Baptist. Funeral Monday 3 pm First Baptist Church officiated by Rev G B Bradshaw with Ray Cook assisting. Survivors: husband F B Gregory son Earl Gregory sisters L R Donahee and Fannie Coats. Burial Elmwood Cemetery Burgess Funeral Home in charge.
