Lone Star Gas crews repaired a Friday Saturday pipeline incident after gasoline liquid caused flames and fumes. About 70 meters of line were shut down, blown out, and restored by Sunday without damage.
At the annual Bowie Chamber of Commerce banquet new president Denny Deaver and five directors took office. Ike Harrison of Texas Christian University forecast rapid growth in the sixties and Bowie’s role in Texas population expansion. The meeting highlighted plans for a Bowie Industrial Development Foundation to attract industry with pledges and fundraising efforts.
City of Bowie's City Light department features four workers Charles Webb Dean Moore Herbert Reeves and Opal McGee. The unit completed 12 three phase set ups 48 permanent services 27 temporary services and furnished 23 locations with 220 volt service. An oil circuit switch costing 2000 dollars was installed along with new poles and overhead lines.
Adult and youth choirs from Methodist and First Baptist churches join for a 3 30 p m Sunday festival at First Methodist Church Bowie. Directors include Mrs Ted Merritt Maurice James Ernest Woolley Terry Randolph and others with pianists and organists. Bonafide program ranges from children's songs to grand anthems.
The Assembly of God Church will start a two week revival Monday night with a youth rally. Pastor Rev. W J Rogers said Evangelist Ike Davis will conduct the meetings and is also a noted vocalist and musician.
Wednesday February 22 is a national holiday and the Post Office and First National Bank will be closed. The Post Office will observe the Sunday schedule by service to box holders.
Trustees set April 1 as school election day with candidates to file by March and George Curlee named election judge. They plan sidewalk taxation near East Ward School and replacements for Mrs. J. W. Clark, while addressing fire drill participation and an upcoming interscholastic league meet at Texas Woman’s University in Denton.
On Monday Jack A Arrington filed to seek the East Ward Alderman seat joining Vernie Young in the contest. Bobby Windham filed for City Secretary, currently unopposed. City Recorder and City Attorney posts have no challengers.
The proposal seeks higher rates to allow a fair profit for the company. Voters and aldermen split. Whitecotton supports the increase citing business profits, while Ire, Nichols, and Young oppose. Court action possible if talks fail.
Charles M. Blackmon precinct two trustee Robert L Cantwell and Jean Lovette precinct four trustee have filed for re election to the county school board Hen W Johnson county superintendent told The News Friday. They met Saturday approving bus route changes Fas Gold Burg Prairie Valley and Forestburg and allowed transfers from Matague to Forestburg to take courses not offered at their school and set March 11 as next meeting night.
