Bowie Young Man Dies When Home Catches Fire
Irl G. Keck, 33, died as his parents home at 522 Green street in Bowie burned Friday night. Neighbors found him in the hallway as flames and smoke filled the house. his death followed attempts by bystanders and firemen to reach him. The Keck family escaped with only the clothes they could grab, with Mrs. Keck losing glasses and both parents having no insurance on household goods. Funeral services were held in Bowie and Seymour with burial at Henson cemetery. Surviving are his parents and four siblings.

Fred Slayden Earns Reserve Hereford at Wichita Falls Show
Fred Slayden exhibited the reserve champion Hereford heifer at the district Junior Beef Show in Wichita Falls this week. His heifer, from the Benson Bros. herd, also won first in the senior registered heifer class. Montague County 4-H entered the judging contest with Slayden, Griffin, Abbott, and Francis Rogers of Bowie on the team.

Ten Year Old Struck By Passing Vehicle
Elizabeth Ann Cornelison aged 10 was hit by a passing vehicle Friday around 5 15 PM on North Mill Street. Women in a 1957 Chevrolet rendered aid and took her to Bowie Hospital where a broken arm was set and she suffered bruises. Police seek the helpers and any drivers who stopped near the scene.

City Divides Lake Lots and Plans Repairs to Auditorium
The Bowie city council laid out 48 50-foot lake lots and leased them while debating repairs to the third-story rooms used by the Bowie women’s clubs. Repairs include heavy floor sanding and redecorating the auditorium, with calls to tear down the structure discussed by Councilman Bert Cassle.
