County Chooses Bowie Bank As Depository
Montague County Commissioners selected the First National Bank of Bowie as depository for county tax collections and all funds for the common school district and county trust funds. The bank will also lend money to the county at a long standing preferential rate. A Friday meeting was planned to discuss the county tax dilemma as remodeling moved the auditor’s office. City Council Sets Paving Plan and Employee Insurance

Pat Jimerson Injured in Montague Saint Jo Wreck
Pat Jimerson was taken to Nocona hospital after a Saturday crash between Montague and Saint Jo. She suffered a fractured hip from a wreck in a 1955 Ford owned by Mayon Dethloff and driven by Carole Sue Dethloff. A tire blowout on a curve caused the car to overturn. Carole Sue was with five Bowie High School girls including Susan Duvall and Teddie Clark.

County Attorney's Office Reports Record Convictions
A report from County Attorney Earl C. Fitts shows a record number of convictions in Montague County over the past two years. Forty six felony cases were tried in District Court with sentences averaging two to ten years. outcomes include 30 to state penitentiary, 13 probations, one suspended, one six months with $1,000 fine, and one acquittal. Sheriff Tom Lindsey and Undersheriffs Welch and Middleton, plus county peace officers, are credited with the cooperation.

Bowie Police Nab Thief in 85 mph Chase
Bowie officers chased an escapee from the State Boys Training School Gatesville in a stolen car fleeing Wichita Falls. Chief Myers and officer Shorty pursued to 85 mph, the driver hid at a service station and surrendered. The youth, near his 17th birthday, was returned to Wichita Falls for further handling.
