The goal is $10,000, aiming to exceed the $7,520 Pearl Harbor day total. The Bowie band and choral club plan a tops program to back monthly buyers’ quota.
A list of Montague County boys accepted at the Induction Station in Dallas on January 27 1943 and sent home for a seven day furlough. Names include Robert C. Winton Lee C. Ashcraft Dewey N. Taylor Gerald E Prater and many others. Another group went directly to camp after Dallas induction.
Farmers and stockmen of the Bowie territory are urged to attend a meeting in the city auditorium Bowie on Saturday afternoon February 13 at 2 o clock to discuss the feed situation. Plans will be made for cooperative purchase of wheat for live stock feeding and the protein situation will be discussed. All interested are invited.

Merchants and clerks should attend for direct official guidance before point rationing begins March 1.
Bowie High hosts Montague County volleyball and basketball Friday and Saturday February 12 and 13 at the Bowie gym. Teams from Bowie Stoneburg Ringgold Sunset Prairie Valley Forestburg and Montague County schools enter both sports with trophies for bracket winners and an all tournament team. Local favorites include Prairie Valley in basketball Bowie in progress, Sunset Ringgold Stoneburg strong in volleyball, Forestburg contends. event expected to draw many fans.
A second extension college course begins at Bowie High School on Monday February 15 with Dr Clifton teaching an advanced history of the English language. The three hour credit course meets Monday nights around 8. An afternoon psychology course is offered by Mr Syd Hamilton of the Education Department of the N T S T G at Denton. Both courses count toward degree requirements. Teachers may call Bowie High School for more information.
The First National Bank of Bowie was named the lowest bidder and depository of all Montague County funds by the commissioners court at a Monday meeting. The two year award continues a long relationship with county funds and includes the city, school district, state and federal accounts.
The Bowie City Council set the annual city election for Tuesday April 6. All officers except Aldermen Winfield Scott and Orrie Garrett, elected two years ago, will be up for election including mayor, four aldermen, secretary, marshal, attorney and recorder.
Montague County Ration Board Chair M Posey says rationing of recapping camelback tires will end about March 1. Public may recape with passenger tires without local board authorization to cut trips and conserve rubber stockpiles. OPA ties change to gasoline restrictions and aims for a 5,000 mile average, warning program withdrawal if restrictions lapse.
Bowie Jackrabbits upset Nocona Indians with two wins to leave the district race tied. The reserves won 34 26 while the varsity prevailed 38 18 led by Paul Garrett with 14 points and Kenneth Shockley with 10. The title will be decided at Ringgold Thursday.
A Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue will assist taxpayers at the Bowie post office on February 19 and 20 to prepare returns at no charge. Filing thresholds are stated for single and married filers. Simplified Form 1040A is available for certain income levels, with 1040 also an option.
Funeral services for Charles H. Bacon 87 of Lubbock were held Monday at Cumberland Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Ben Bates. Bacon born in Missouri moved to Bowie in 1886 then to Lubbock after his wife died. He left three sons, a daughter, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery with Burgess Funeral Home directing.
Dave Major spent the weekend in Fort Worth visiting relatives and conducting business engagements with local contacts. He engaged in routine meetings and personal calls while staying in the city.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Smith 75 were held at Mallard church with Rev W L Bauer officiating. Interment followed in Mallard cemetery. Pallbearers listed. Mrs Smith born September 30 1867 in Mississippi married J D R Smith January 1 1901. Surviving husband three brothers sister and other relatives noted. Glen Medlen visits Bowie kin after returning from Corpus Christi.
Mrs. E. Cox and her son James Edward from Bellevue visited Wednesday afternoon to attend the show at the Bowie Majestic theater.
A disastrous early morning fire completely destroyed the three story First Baptist Church and damaged the adjacent Educational Building. Loss estimated at 45000 with personal library value of 2000. Church insured for 18750. library insured for 800. Rebuilding plans underway with use of city auditorium for services while work proceeds.
Mrs. Ben Hicks was summoned to Stephenville on Thursday after the death of her cousin, Mrs. Kennedy.

Sunday and Monday present Across the Pacific with Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor. Tuesday shows Mexican Spitfire’s Elephant with Lupe Velez and Leon Errol. Wednesday and Thursday offer Road to Morocco with Bing Crosby Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour.
The OPA announced a one sixth cut in the next coffee ration. Stamp No 25 in War Ration Book No 1 will be valid for one pound for six weeks instead of five. Stamp No 25 expires March 21 and Stamp 28 expired February 7.
Mrs. W. F. Robinson of Brownwood spent several days last week visiting friends in Bowie.
W. H. Farar, bedridden at his Bowie home for a month, is reported to be slightly better this week after a serious illness.
