Judge Louis Holland commended a quiet cooperative audience in a court room Tuesday night after the jury left. Gordon L. Cady was named a director of the First National Bank of Bowie at a Tuesday board meeting. He succeeds his late father R. C. Cady, who served twenty years as a director. The Montague county campaign totals show 4295.86 dollars raised so far with incomplete county reporting. Amity club in Bowie contributed 734.00, while Bow ie Sunset and Stoneburg together totaled 2252.86. Nocona porchlight drive raised 691.00, bringing their overall tally to 1119.65.

Post master Horace Turns received authority to open the money order window at 8 o’clock each morning, aligning with other windows opening. Previously rules barred opening the money order window before 9 a.m.
The Class B basketball tournament opens in the Bowie gym with eight teams including Petrolia Midway Gold Burg Byers Antelope Bellevue Forestburg and Prairie Valley. Forestburg beat Prairie Valley 47-36 and Antelope defeated Midway 62-40 opening night.
Rev. John J. McNamara of Gladewater Texas will address the Methodist men during Brotherhood Week at the 7 30 meeting. He received a newspaper award as outstanding man of the year for promoting understanding among faiths and is a member of the Missionaries of LaSalette. He is a Kingston New York native and friend of Bill Brewer.
Forty rural patrons will be added to rural route three on next Wednesday. The route is carried by Foster Robinson. The new patrons live on Bowie edges in the Trail Covington and Weatherford additions near the Grace drilling headquarters and armory.

The John Q. Cox Jr murder trial in Montague district court continued with Cox on the witness stand at noon. Jurors were being selected since Monday. 192 summoned, 54 women dismissed for lack of overnight accommodations. The case involves Clyde Bryson’s fatal shooting in Sunset.
Four jury cases are listed in Montague county district court as a murder trial continues. A jury panel is subpoenaed for Monday. The docket includes Bluff Creek Oil Co vs Deer Creek Oil Co, C and R Transport Co vs Dennis M Richardson, First National Bank of Terras vs N L Sewell on note, and Marion E Greenwood vs Joseph R Penn car damage. Judge Louis Holland has handled juries since mid December and will hear more. he will attend a grand jury hearing in Archer county tomorrow.
Sam Johnson of Bellevue purchased the business building on North Mason Street from Mrs. Ethel Overfelt across from the post office. The Montex Oil Co. formerly occupied the building. Johnson advertises it for rent this week. sale handled by Mrs. Hallie Collins.
1955 car license plates can be secured at the office of Mrs Eva Giles the city school tax collector in the basement of the city auditorium. Deadline on new tags is April 1.
City tax collector D T Wilson reports 1954 taxes totaling 26047 78 with 25432 05 current taxes and 615 73 delinquent Taxes are not complete yet For 1953 the city collected 97 percent of taxes 25247 46 current and 1028 74 delinquent
Bowie Chamber of Commerce directors voted to form a local building and loan company and named a committee to study it. They urged city officials to adjust population figures on highway markers and discussed benefits of a 5000 plus population for charter eligibility. Elton Hill to appoint the committee. Roy Slaughter noted new 1955 members.
Mr and Mrs Elton W Jenkins purchased a lot from Mr and Mrs John White in the White addition near White Hill. Plans call for a two bedroom house with construction to begin next week. timelines and exact design details are being finalized.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Covey have moved into their recently completed residence on North Walnut Street. The parcel was purchased from the Evans family.
Company A of the 49th Recon Battalion Fort Worth received a 3 by 4 foot World War II scene photo for 100 percent attendance at Federal inspection Lt Col D A Thompson, inspection officer, praised the unit as in excellent shape The National Guard Bureau Gold Award for Superior in efficiency in training during 1954 was presented by Lt Col Eugene Safford Major John Waldrop and Sergeant Advisor Pete Terragna from Fort Worth also attended
Tax collector Mrs. Evan Giles reports 94 percent of school taxes paid for the period ending February 1, with total collections of 133 585 26 on a roll of 142 103 75. Last year, 128 152 42 was collected on a 133 288 38 roll.
R V Garrett reports 1955 Carrier models fit Bowie's water conservation plan as they do not use water. He saw the units at a Dallas dealer meeting and has them on display at his store. Rev Warren McSwain attends ministers week at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
N. E. Lewis and Joe Richardson described Bowie high school vocational agriculture efforts at a Rotary meeting. Supt. Claude Thompson announced the high school band’s upcoming trip to Hutchinson Kansas.

Roy D Sanders Jr discussed replacing the old rock agriculture building with a new wing at the east ward school. A trustee election set for the first Saturday in April to fill two Bowie positions. A transportation committee arranged plans for the band's trip to Hutchinson Kansas.
Troop 116 of Bowie Boy Scouts placed third with 536 points in a first aid meet held in Wichita Falls. Attendees were Tim Hall Jerry Laughlin John Ike Mitch ell Buddy Branson and Tommy Branson led by scout master Ike Mitchell. Valley View Scouts won first place Wichita Falls second Bowie third.
Bowie Jaycees at their meeting endorsed a Poole bill to place crime and horror books in the misdemeanor bracket. They discussed Bowie population figures and possible highway sign changes. Four Bowie FFA youths demonstrated cattle judging as Montague County prepares its 4-H and FFA project show.
