A citizen questions city officials and postal employees about commercial cow lots operating near the post office, alleged sanitary violations, and uneven treatment by city and state authorities. The letter thanks the paper for raising public concern and asks if such setups exist in other towns.
The Bowie Chamber of Commerce plans a membership drive during Chamber of Commerce Week from February 12 to 18. Mayor Lee W. Tucker proclaims the event with teams Reds Whites and Blues led by captains H A Richardson Jr Jerry Delleney and A E Roberts. A royal style day features buglers from Buckingham Palace Guards and Billy the goat promenading downtown.
Formal announcement states the sale of the Continental wholesale gasoline and oil agency in Bowie to Jack and Stanley Airington a father and son team who have distributed APCO petroleum products in the area in recent years.
Allen Guthrie of Bowie is appointed District Deputy Grand Master for Masonic District No. 86 covering seven Montague County lodges. Guthrie, a Bowie Lodge 578 past master, also serves at First Baptist Bowie and on civic groups including Boy Scouts and City Council. The 131st Grand Lodge session in Waco announced the deputies for 132 Texas districts.
The Bowie Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet as John Wilson passed leadership to Jimmy Henderson. The event announced an expansion at Bowie Manufacturing Company adding 11 workers and half a million dollars to payroll, while honoring Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Medder for contributions to agriculture and livestock. Dr. Aaron Sartain of SMU spoke. officers for the coming year were named: Harold Ensey treasurer, Kent Henry vice president, Henry senior secretary.
PEC Allen Gibbons son of Mr and Mrs A D Gibbons of Bowie is stationed with the army in Viet Nam as a field medic in Vong Tou. He arrived January 29 after enlisting April 3 1966. A Bowie High School graduate he is an artist and readers may see his work and war commentary.
