Mr. and Mrs. Emin Heard of Bowie report their son Charles Willis Heard, 21, was killed January 12 in France after being missing in action. A sentry on a bridge near the Colmar Strassberg area, he had served since May 1943 after schooling at Bowie High School John Tarleton College Texas Tech and Kingsville engineering program. Survived by his parents and brother Gordon.

Mrs. W. M. Tucker of 404 Jefferson Street received word that her nephew Pfc Harry Baswell was killed in action August 19 1944. Baswell lived with his uncle E D Hill in Nocona before entering service. He has two brothers in the service Cpl Max Baswell at Pearl Harbor and Pvt Lyndall Baswell overseas. His parents are deceased.

Funeral rites were held for Elizabeth Mary Lamb 83 a Bowie pioneer who lived in the city for 52 years. The English born widow of W R Lamb she told stories of England Dickens and meeting the Prince of Wales as a child. Burial followed at Elmwood with Burgess Funeral Home directing.
