A new switchboard was installed in the Bowie High School office of secretary Mrs Hope Hudspeth to handle all incoming calls with help from female students. Bowie High School seniors Bruce Coggin and Charlotte Jackson placed in the top two percent among 478 000 top scholars in the National Merit Scholarship tests last spring. Only about 2 500 scholarships are awarded nationwide, with the top one half of one percent earning grants for college. Both students are straight A and active in band. Charlotte also excels in declamation and public speaking.
