Glass Beach plant to start soon in Bowie
Roy D. Sanders Jr and Bob Posey say construction will begin within a week on an Industrial Glass Corporation building at the west edge of Bowie on railroad land donated by the Chamber of Commerce. The steel structure 60 by 100 feet will house a furnace from Pennsylvania for producing faceted glass beads and luminous highway markers. They plan to hire six to eight workers and aim to tap a market with no other west of the Mississippi.

The Bennett Brothers Oil Company reported a gas well test south of Bowie. Drilling at the 574 62 foot level showed an initial flow of 2,530,000 cubic feet per second with a final flow of 3,000,000 cubic feet per second. Initial pressure was 385 psi, final 525 psi, and shut-in pressure 770 psi after 20 minutes. The well lies in the ETRA Co survey block 43, about 8 miles southwest of Bowie.
