Christmas Mail Volume Falls Short of Estimates
Christmas mail volume across the United States ran about five percent below predicted levels at the start of last week. Bowie Postmaster Ernest Chandler and other officials traced the lag to reduced first class mailings after the Kennedy assassination. Officials expect 1962 figures may reach but not exceed nine percent growth, with a rebound unlikely without a late rush.
