Pioneer couple Walker mirrors Whitmans in Oregon journey
Mary Richardson Walker, born in Maine, and Elkanah Walker sailed for Oregon on their honeymoon with other couples in the 1840s. Mary kept a revealing diary of frontier life, bearing seven sons and a daughter, while caring for family and mission work. Elkanah died in 1877. Mary lived twenty years more in Oregon.
