A six car chain reaction on the north edge of Bowie at 4:38 pm Sunday injures Mrs. John Linden of Denton and Mrs. Herbert Reinhardt of Fort Worth who are treated and released at Bowie Clinic Hospital. The unidentified white Buick left the scene as officers seek its driver.
The First National Bank of Bowie invites the public to an open house Sunday afternoon to celebrate its 75th anniversary and showcase a new building costing about 250 thousand dollars. Tours of all departments, prize registrations, and refreshments follow a 1 30 p.m. flag ceremony. Prizes include a diamond pin, cuff links and tie set, and a model 1910 Model T Ford. The event highlights the bank’s long history dating to 1890 and substantial current assets, with deposits around 12.6 million and loans near 7.25 million.
The East Side Baptist church in Bowie will hold its regular first Friday night gospel singing this Friday December 3 at 7 p.m. The Melody Trio of Whitesboro is among the expected performers and many singers plan to attend.
Santa Claus is slated to land at Bowie Municipal Airport at 1 30 pm Saturday per a filed flight plan. Fred Bloom of the Chamber of Commerce says a large crowd will greet him as children from six to sixty are invited. A parade will form after a motorcade from Montague Highway to Bowie High School Band Hall and through the business district with the band playing. Car owners of vintage classes are invited to join and compete for prizes based on car condition and age. The city lights glow as Christmas decor rises. Duplicate prizes go to the three best decorated areas and windows. Registration with the Chamber by December 12 is required to be judged between December 12 and Christmas Eve. Lights remain 7 to 10 pm nightly for judging by in town and out of town judges.

A 13 year old Henrietta girl Virginia Thompson died at Bowie Hospital after a car crash at Decatur. She suffered a severe head injury and died at 10 p.m. after an ambulance halted in Bowie at 7 30 p.m. en route to Wichita Falls.
Bowie Postmaster E L Chandler awarded retirement certificates to Edwin E Wheeler and Everett L Cloer on Tuesday. Wheeler, a fireman laborer, served 23 years in Bowie while Cloer, a rural carrier, had 28 years in government service and previously led Newport routes before moving to Bowie in 1961.
The fourth annual Candlelight Christmas Carool Sing directed by Rev Ronald L. Jenkins will be at St Peter’s Lutheran Church Bowie at 4:00 Sunday featuring historic carols and solos by Gloria Johnson Gwen Palmour and others with Janet Moore Narrator. A second program follows December 12 at Trinity Lutheran Bridgeport Texas with similar selections.
