Montague County Oil Output Tops 14 Million in 1968

Montague County produced 4.4 million barrels of crude oil and 8.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas in 1968, yielding $14.1 million in value. Royalty payments reached $1.8 million while production taxes totaled $675,000. Drilling included 75 wells with 42 oil completions and 33 dry holes. 20 wildcats were drilled.

Montague County commissioners approve a special bond election for completing U.S. Highway 287 and a Bowie North-East Loop with an estimated cost of 210000 for highway property and up to 80000 for right of way. Alvord Bank Robbery Reported by Lone White Male

The Alvord National Bank in Alvord was robbed by a lone white male armed with a dark revolver on December 23, 1968. He contacted the vice president, the only person in the bank, and ordered money from the vault using grocery store style paper sacks. He directed an elderly woman and two female employees to shelter behind the teller cage.

Bowie Schools to Open August 26 for 1969 70 Year

Bowie Schools will begin the 1969 70 school year on Tuesday August 26 with a full day to 2 30 p m. Summer holidays caused several teacher workshops beginning August 18 and continuing through the year. The Education and Service Center Wichita Falls will hold a Bowie High School workshop for teachers and staff.

NTSU Grad Speaks At First Baptist Bowie Revival

James R. Patterson evangelist will preach at a Bowie First Baptist revival August 9 and 10 at 7 p m nightly. Music director Danny Vance leads the summer choir with a youth emphasis and a fellowship meeting follows the services. Patterson, born February 28 1943, was licensed to preach in 1965 after earning a BBA from North Texas State University.
