First Annual Grape Festival Draws 3000 Visitors Near Bowie

More than 3,000 attend the first Grape Festival and field day at the Fruit Experiment Farm seven miles north of Bowie. Miss Nora Jean Rhyne of the Bowie News crowned queen, with awards to eight duchesses. The event featured vineyard tours, fruit exhibits, a radio broadcast on WFAA, and extensive coverage by press and radio crews from multiple towns.
