Claude L Martin Jr buys Garretts and Co store on Macon Street and renames it Martin Home Supply Bowie leaders say he will run it with wife Judy Prater and Glenn Nichols. Garrett and Claude Garrett acquire J E Brown Furniture Co on Smythe Street. details await next week announcement.
City Council granted Bowie Independent School District a lease on vacant lots northeast of Bowie Stadium expanding the campus toward Nelson Street. Mayor E L Anderson announced additions will boost athletic facilities with extensive improvements planned. Council also granted an oil lease on outlying holdings to independent operator M B Winsett.
Mr and Mrs Roy Wesson have returned from a two weeks trip visiting Houston Galveston Corpus Christi Austin and Waco.
The Fundamental Church revival, directed by Rev. Lester Singleton of Ramseur Baptist Church Paris, will end Friday night April 26. Good attendance is noted with special music arranged by C. B. Wilson choir director, Ramseur Baptist Church, assisted by his daughter Miss Martha Wilson as accompanist.
National and International Music Week runs May 5 to 11 with a joint church service at First Methodist Church May 5 organized by Miss Inez Rudy. The community night program is set for May 10 in the City Auditorium.
The Bowie Art League announces its annual carnival on Monday April 29 from 6 to 10 PM in the City Auditorium basement. Public invited to view local artists works in booths and watch sketches in progress. Art sale foods and crafts items will be offered with proceeds going to the Bowie War Memorial Fund.
A Bowie couple en route to Sunset for a wedding were hurt in a collision with a truck between Fruitland and Sunset. Miss Alline Mayfield and Oves Lawyer suffered cuts and bruises but no serious injuries. They were treated at Bowie Clinic Hospital and released. The ceremony occurred the next day at the bride’s parents’ home, and the couple now reside on Elba Street.
The Montague County singing convention will be held April 28 in the Bowie City Auditorium directed by Roland Welch of Nocona as president and Grover Thompston of Saint Jo as vice president. The program runs 10 30 a m to 4 p m with singers from Texas and Oklahoma and special provisions for quarters. Attendees are asked to bring basket lunches to be spread in the auditorium basement at noon.
The building housing Gwins Auto Electric on East Wire street has undergone extensive work. A glass front, wooden awning, and exterior painting were added to improve appearance and comfort during summer.
A $200 donation was added this week to the Bowie War Memorial Fund. The gift came from Bass & Dillard, Wichita Falls oil operators with local offices.
Representative E L Covey of Montague county announces his candidacy for a second term in the Texas House. Serving in District 47, he chairs committees and led farm to market road and Texas school system reforms. He backs veteran legislation and conservation.

Bowie High School athletes posted a solid showing at the regional track meet in Dallas on Saturday though they did not accumulate enough points to qualify for the State Meet. Notable results included James Roberson and Clint Gregory losing to a Waco tennis doubles team. Participants in track events included David Worley, Jimmy Balch, Glenn Champers, Clark Bradley, Eugene Wall, T. A. Wiginton, Forest Zavers, Charles Henning, Bob Raley, J. G. Pickett, and Roy Curry.
Bowie Independent Schools expect 175 registrations for 1946-47 as Superintendent Walter B. Alexander releases a cautious estimate after the latest school census.
Bowie High School Band under George Rucker will travel May 2 to the State Contest in Waco. The group will stay at the Raleigh Hotel with twelve cars as chaperoned transport. They enter sixteen solos and seven ensembles in Class One and Class Two, performing Beethoven inspired overture Eroica and Aurora Overture by Yoder, with multiple soloists and accompanists named.
