Building Immunity in Babies Against Diseases
The Illinois State Medical Society says infants may have natural immunity to scarlet fever measles diphtheria mumps infantile paralysis and rheumatic fever via maternal blood or milk. Immunity lasts about a year for scarlet fever measles and diphtheria and longer for mumps and rheumatic fever. Smallpox immunity is not acquired, so vaccination is advised.
