In Lewiston Maine on November 7 the ox wall championship between J H Hamilton Harrison v Peaslee Alna and A P Berry Litchfield was postponed by weather and won by Peaslee with oxen pulling 10 500 pounds twenty four feet five inches. Hamilton placed second with twenty two feet four and three quarter inches and Berry finished last at eighteen feet ten inches.
In Panama on October 24 a young medical student, pursuing his final examinations, aimed to research a well known disease indigenous to Peru as the subject of his dissertation and died in the attempt to teach others how to live.
The student, hoping to prove a diagnosis for verrugas or Oroya fever, inoculated himself with virus from a verruga pustule and awaited results. He soon showed Oroya fever symptoms but succumbed to the illness on the 6th, after intense suffering.
Philadelphia report traces the romance from Australia to the Pacific coast, detailing Jeannie Winston and Arthur Bell as star and stage manager who drifted apart yet remained professional. Bell’s new marriage to Annie Carmen of Brooklyn ends their courtship while both resume work in the same company reopening in Philadelphia.
Washington reports that Congressman Springer will present a written denial to President Cleveland. He defends himself against charges and says he owns no New Mexico property. Springer asserts his son was not appointed by Vincent and is not in New Mexico, but an Evanston college student. Judge Rouleau of Battleford arrived in Winnipeg to sentence forty six Indian prisoners for involvement in the Froglake massacre. Sixteen discharged, twenty nine sent to the penitentiary for twenty to two years, eleven sentenced to be hanged November 27. Eight of the eleven likely to be hanged. two might have sentences commuted, possibly a third.
In St. Joan New Brunswick on November 2 two youths named Robinson and Fisher were arrested in Prince Edward Island and charged with the murder of Fitzpatrick, a Charlottetown lad, shot while they were out driving. the ball struck his back and he died shortly after.
Miss Howard daughter of the literrateur known for educating Sioux youth travels via Bismark with seven Indian pupils en route to Hampton College. She has been linked to a romantic tale about her ties to a Sioux youth while overseeing education at Fort Yates.
Miss Katie Tabb, a well known young Louisville woman, was fatally burned last night after her clothing caught fire while she knelt before the grate praying. She died from severe injuries sustained in the incident.

The Charleston social season centerpiece was the November 4 wedding of Patrick Calhoun of Atlanta to Sarah Porter Williams daughter of George Williams a Charleston millionaire. Joseph Schneider lies in critical condition after a Chicago woman identified as Mrs Stadleman threw vitriol into his face following a dispute about a $1000 loan. He had earlier won a $200 judgment against her. The attack occurred on the street and she escaped. Schneider asked police not to arrest her.
The messenger's hurried report described the Missouri Florida Cattle Company's ranch attack near Domino New Mexico. Mr Shy his wife and son escaped to arrive here yesterday with the son wounded in the thigh. John Yeater and wife of Pitts County Missouri were killed within five miles of their destination. Captain Chaffee and his company pursued the marauders but were surprised. one scout was killed and one soldier wounded.
A female student’s admission to Yale Law School sparked a heated dispute at Hartrorp Connecticut. President Porter sought to cancel admission papers but faced strong faculty opposition. Dean Wayland defended the admission noting it followed examination standards. A compromise allowed her to remain without listing her name in the catalogue and barred future similar privileges without law changes.
New York November 5 Officials at the district attorney s office refuse to confirm a report that William D Warner will be indicted for alleged complicity in Ferdinand Ward s frauds The grand jury now in session is believed to be ready to bring in such an indictment.
Chattanooga Tenn November 9 Part of the terrible cloud burst near Fort Paine in north Alabama Friday caused wires to go down and trains on the Alabama Southern to halt since Friday. The deluge washed cotton fields and turned small streams into rivers. Tracks of the Alabama Great Southern were undermined for about nine miles and several hundred men have been repairing them since Saturday as the river rose rapidly.
Fire consumed the Cumberland county court houses in Toxepo, Ill., destroying all county records early this morning. No injuries reported. Local officials say the loss includes vital legal documents and historical files. Investigations into causes are underway as residents brace for disrupted records.
