A Wilmington Delaware report describes the elopement of Miss Wilson daughter of mill owner James Wilson to Joseph Leaf a poor mill worker. New York May 24 report details Courtney injured by lake crossing last fall. Doctor says back pain and paroxysms idiopathic hinder his racing, possibly missing Providence race on June 17 unless he recovers in days to weeks.
The Sportsman reports that Fitzwilliam Wentworth signed for Trickett and sent the papers to Colonel Shaw for Hanlan’s approval. Trickett sails for England soon with arrival expected by late July. William Garvin a Quincy granite cutter residing at 1324 Vine Street was attacked by a mob on a Camden and Amboy train near Riverside New Jersey after aiding conductor Edward J. Wilson. Gallagher accused of delivering the fatal blow fled the car as Garvin fell dying at the platform. Gallagher turned himself in and was jailed for coroner's inquest.
May 24 Edenburg Pennsylvania witnesses its third town ruin by fire. The United States Hotel sparked a blaze destroying about seventy structures along Railroad to Main streets and Penn avenue within two and a half hours. Loss listed near 150000 with post office, Clarion County Bank and United Pipe Line office among major buildings burned.
In New York on May 22 a German husband killed his wife, Joanna Brennan, at 525 East Sixty eighth Street, slashing her throat with razor and knife after disputes over a bank book. He washed, changed clothes, took the bank book, left, and a German note signed Emil Brennan blamed infidelity. Authorities suspect he sailed for Europe.

Flora Heath of Johnson died under suspicious circumstances prompting a post mortem by doctors that showed recent pregnancy and an unskilled operation. The Baltimore and Ohio railroad loaded a number of cars in barges at Glenwood station and transported them to the Pittsburg and Lake Erie line on the Monongahela river.
