Over 5000 Democratic Clubs Listed Shakeup in 1890s politics
New York Jan 23 The World correspondent in Washington reports that two weeks ago Mr Cleveland decided to announce his withdrawal from the presidential contest after private pleas from friends. He traveled to Louisiana where a major political note emerged. He felt slighted by party leaders who ignored him, faced a strong push from Gov Hill in Albany, and saw New York’s delegation shift to Hill. He postponed his plan under pressure, but anxiety remains about his eventual declaration and the risk to Cleveland allies in key states. In Washington discussions followed on consolidating factional support, with potential resignations and realignment among Pattison Carlisle Palmer Boies and Gray. At a separate event, Jerry Simpson challenged reform rhetoric, provoking protests and signaling a possible realignment of the alliance. In Wasntvotox, Holman stated that refuting printing reform preserves not party traditions but opposition to bureaus and document control.
