He hired a gutter band to draw crowds and with an old forceps he began free dental extractions on pavements claiming to do so without pain. The band played loudly to drown the patients cries. He boasted a record of fourteen teeth in one second. He covered himself with diamonds, wearing a ring of 173 stones and a watch with twenty two stones. It is said he made one hundred thousand dollars a year.
