AUGUSTA August 9 It has been a busy week with the Republican candidate Leaving Bar Harbor in a rainstorm Monday he rested at Augusta a day and a half and then went to Portland where 8000 business men gave him a reception with many speeches and handshakes Thursday he went to Old Orchard for a soldiers reunion A dozen Republicans mostly office holders acted as body guards from Portland to Old Orchard Governor Robie ex Governor Connor Congress and feed Colonel Oats of Colored B Laat all spoke
One or two others spoke and Mr Blaine spoke briefly at Augusta muster grounds before meeting with allies Captain Boutelle and the Postmaster. He then went to Bar Harbor to rest and is slated for a Lake Maranacook mass meeting Tuesday though not expected to speak. He may attend Strong on August 19 for the party’s thirtieth anniversary.

Fourteen years after Widow Comoski was murdered in Poland her son Joseph Comoski Jr. vows vengeance. Doctors deem death likely by drowning during a somnolent episode after years of unexplained slumber and failed treatments. An investigation by Newtown authorities is expected.
A seven year old boy Willie Smith was found crying at the New York & New England depot. He says 14 year old Joan Stevens lured him to America promising to see barges and people unlike London. They boarded a train to Liverpool then a tender to Circassian bound for Montreal. Willie sailed alone until sunset realizing his voyage. He slept and ate poorly, searching for Stevens, and is now at Chardon Street Home awaiting his parents.
The Norwegian bark Achilles, after a 90 day Atlantic crossing from London, battled northward ice and cold before breaking free near 42 457, 26, as a large American ship emerged from the ice. In Atlantic City, Miss Dollie Patterson, saved from drowning, married William F. Callahan, the coast guardsman who saved her, with a seaside ceremony at Balton cottage while he remained on duty nearby.
A southeastorigined cyclone ripped Wasco Oregon yesterday causing heavy damage. The Methodist Church and a large mill were leveled while many other structures lost roofs. The storm brought a brief downpour and left widespread destruction across the town.
HinWincham August 5 A vast audience of about 20 000 gathered at Bingley Hall to hear John Bright and Joseph Chamberlain denounce the House of Lords and press for reform. Bright urged curbing veto power while Chamberlain argued against divine right and urged self government for England. A resolution condemned the Lords for rejecting reform and was enthusiastically approved.
A Shanghai despatch reports that Admiral Lespes with five vessels bombarded and captured Kelung on Formosa. The Times notes official confirmation from Paris and London dated August 11. Foochow telegraph claims forts were destroyed and the French force retired without bombardment or occupation.
Severe storms swept England with hail three inches long and an inch thick at Accrington. Two miles of destruction hit houses churches and mills. River Irwell rose five feet in twenty minutes. Lightning caused widespread damage and fatalities including four reported deaths in Burnley Barnsley Darwen and Nottingham.
August 11 report in the Freeman’s Journal claims Thomas Casey, reputed ap prover in the Maantrasna murder, swore under duress by Crown solicitor Bolton to name Myles Joyce and others as the criminals.
