Columnus reports a cyclone struck Tee county this morning causing great damage. The residence of W. H. Howard was blown to pieces and a wagon in the yard was carried seventy five yards through the air.
St Petersburg April 15 five Nihilists including Ryssakoff Michaeloff Kibaltschitschi Jeliaboff and Sophie Pieoffsky were hanged after refusing priestly rites. A crowd watched as the rope broke on Michaeloff twice before final death, the execution lasting about twenty minutes amid drums and police order.
Report from Peters burg April 16 describes stringent measures to suppress Nihilist news and reveals plots. Citing the Czar funeral candles filled with nitroglycerine, a near disaster was averted. Palaces protected underground. a coachman was jailed over sealed raeneene, while the peasant involved vanished. In 1866 John Truro, courting Annie Wright in this city, died when the steamer Evening Star sank off the Florida coast. He had bought a $10,000 accident policy payable to Miss Wright before sailing. The first public display of Edison electric lights in New York occurred at the Edison Electric Light Company headquarters. The sixteen candlepower lamps resemble those at Menlo Park and light output can be regulated within set limits. Preparations are underway to install the lamps in a lower city quarter.
The London Daily News reports 500000 revised New Testament copies already made in England and 100000 in New York, none saleable yet. Once an English edition copy is procured, 10000 copies will be set in type within twenty four hours in New York and six copies will be produced daily until demand is met.
