Benjamin Harris Brewster born October 23 1818 in New Jersey. He studied law in Philadelphia and became a distinguished attorney later serving as Pennsylvania attorney general and United States attorney general under presidents Polk and Arthur. He helped in Cherokee law claims and presided over Star Route cases until 1886. He once endured a severe family tragedy in youth.

New York April 9. A St Louis dispatch says Chairman Barnum of the Democratic national committee denies published charges of hostility to Cleveland and opposition to his renomination. He says he is pledged to do all in his power to aid Cleveland and to secure him a second term.
New York April 6 Rev J M Suther land known as Senator Bob Hart ex minstrel and evangelist died tonight after a period of disgrace following a recent assault accusation by a Long Island girl. He was found dead in a Chambers street hotel room after heavy drinking.
A freight engine exploded on the Erie railroad at Cragville. Engineer Bodine and Fireman Boyce were instantly killed while Conductor Clark died later from injuries. The blast hurled debris far, shattered windows, and was heard for miles as parts scattered near a stream.
Dooley, a teamster, took a switch engine on the Chicago & Northwestern main track, started west, and was thrown off at Halsted. The engine wrecked at Western avenue after colliding with another engine, causing about $10,000 damage. Dooley was uninjured and arrested.
Erskine M. Phelps reports after returning from the East that Governor Hill is not a candidate and there is no opposition to Grover Cleveland's nomination. Melville W. Fuller is seen as best of Westerns for the Supreme Court appointment, with Cleveland well acquainted with him and expectations of courtesy in the process.
Jacob Sharp died in New York at 9:20 p.m. after three days of unconsciousness at his 354 West Twenty third Street home. Survived by wife Mrs Sharp and two daughters Mrs Stevens and Mrs Selmes, with son George Sharp, the delayed illness traced to a blizzard period and a long rail journey, as doctors noted imminent danger and his condition worsened into bronchial complications.
