New York Democrats Confront Convention Deliberations

Saratoga Sept 29 Three key developments shaped the Democratic State convention. Parker refuses a gubernatorial nomination, Kings County leader Hugh McLaughlin shifts toward Coler, and strong sentiment favors Senator Hill as nominee. A looming decision at midnight could nominate Hill or force a Parker-Coler clash while the rest of the ticket remains unsettled. The arrival of Greater New York delegates heightens tension as Devery leads a triumphant parade, and Tammany capitalizes with a multi-section special train. A tentative platform calls for trust reform tariff revision and opposition to the Philippines and Cuba policies, with no explicit money plank yet included.
