On Bail at Park Theatre A French Comedy Adaptation

A Park Theatre debut of Gilbert’s adaptation of Le Reveillon titled On Bail brings sharp wit and lively confusion. Jonathan Lovibond and jailer Marcooly misidentify each other through a night of supper in the green room and a jail cell, ending in a comic quadrille and quashed indictment. The cast includes James Lewis and W. J. Ferguson with praised performances from Miss Rachel Sanger and Mrs. Gilbert. The program opens with Two Flats and a Sharp and follows by Old Love Letters, sustaining strong stage charm though not as strong as Hurricanes or Champagne and Oysters.
