Funeral draws entire town for Norwich football player

President Charles H. Spooner of Norwich University led a full college cadet company and much of Greenfield to the funeral of Vernon Bel yea, the Norwich football player injured in last week’s Holy Cross game. Bearers included six officers. a 150-strong school escort marched in full dress. Services at the Baptist church and grave were conducted with military honors.

Autoists Lose Race With Train At Waverley Crossing

Three young men in a touring car at Waverley crossing attempted to beat an inbound train. The locomotive struck the car’s rear, tipping it 20 feet and throwing occupants onto the highway. Victor Hendrickson suffered fractured ribs and a broken arm. he was taken to Waltham Hospital. Duddy and Mitchell were sent home after medical attention.

Kills Himself Aboard Perfection Steamship

Bowman C Gullison first officer of the Standard Oil steamship Perfection shot himself in his cabin as the vessel lay at anchor off Tomkinsville New York. He had signed for a new voyage from Boston and could not be replaced in time. Gullison, 30, resided in Nova Scotia and had joined the ship recently after letters of recommendation. He left a final line to his wife. No motive explains the act.

Boundaries of the universe reported by Professor Innes

The universe is claimed to lie within the Milky Way girdle with the farthest star about 540 light years away. Innes calculates a universe diameter of over 6.3 quadrillion miles, notes no signs of other universes, and cites 441000 solar masses as the universe mass. He estimates star counts by mass and suggests most light comes from a few large bodies and that space shows little light absorption.

Elevated hearing on wages dispute resumes at Ford Hall

The Boston Elevated Company arbitration on wages and conditions, adjourned on Sept. 19, resumes today at 10:30 AM at Ford Hall before arbitrators Storrow Richards and Vahey. Attorney Feeney for employees says his side may close this week with testimony on wages working conditions and career advancement in road wires conduits and maintenance units. Vahey's illness caused a further postponement from Thursday.
