Details emerge of a theft where a forger passed a bogus check bearing a stock exchange firm name and obtained securities valued at about 360000 from a New York bank. The institution is unnamed but believed to be a national bank in the financial district.
Pearl & Co stock brokers at 27 William Street arranged a one day loan of 300000 dollars. A stranger presented a check for the loan plus 387.50 cents interest drawn on an account never held by Pearl & Co at a bank, and securities were surrendered. The forgery passed through the clearing house before detected. Securities included 1000 United States Steel shares, 1000 Rock Island shares, 1000 Metropolitan Street Railway shares, 70 Missouri Pacific shares, 200 North American Company shares, 47 American Tobacco 6 percent bonds, and some Wabash Debenture B bonds.
Police have made no headway in the mystery of the theft of Mrs. John McLane's jewelry in Milford New Hampshire. The stolen items were valued at 1500 dollars.
Mr and Mrs McLane, returning from Indianapolis, found their trunk at Ayer Junction station with lock forced and straps loosened. Jewelry missing includes a bracelet necklace and rings. Governor and wife are staying at the Washington House Bretton Woods. The crime is linked to the trunk, found there from Saturday to Monday, with a detective brought in after secrecy failed.

The family of J. A. McCleman of 54 Cemetery Street fled their home in night clothes after a closet fire began early this morning in Newton Centre. The blaze caused about $600 in damages to the residence.
