Fusileers Earn Praise for Funeral Readiness
The Fusileers won great credit for themselves and reflected it generously upon Boston and Massachusetts by the promptness and completeness with which the company was put in readiness to attend the late president's funeral. Their excellent appearance and bearing were remarked and appreciated by the Cleveland people. The post of honor was given them and they proved themselves worthy of it, as they are accustomed to do when representing Boston abroad.

Democrats Face Senate Power Over Bayard Appointment
The New York Commercial Advertiser hints that Senator Bayard will be chosen president pro tem of the senate but questions who will hold a majority after recent admissions. It asks whether Republicans can remove Bayard and whether the senate can destroy or create. Republican chagrin over sworn-in presiding officer law
From the Albany Argus, Republicans lament the new rule requiring all senators to be sworn in by the senate's presiding officer, which mandates selecting a presiding officer before any oath. The law, described as republican-made, exposes editors to an unintended national matter previously concealed from them. The piece notes editors were unaware of the law’s existence.
