Milk Price Standoff Forces Milk War Over Nine Cents
Hood & Sons proposed absorbing half of a half-cent consumer cut to nine cents per quart, but the New England Milk Producers Association insisted farmers fixed October at nine cents. Hood offered 83 1/4 cents with a half-cent pass through to consumers, while Dr. N C Davis cited lower grain and labor costs and surplus milk. Producers expect nine cents, others warn of selling to other markets. Mayor Peters has pressed for lower prices to boost consumption.
