Crescens Wins Grand Trot at Readville as Cresceus Faces Setback

In a high excitement program at Readville, Crescens clinched the big race by a neck over Charley Herr with Cresceus close behind in the final heat, amid heavy betting on Cresceus earlier. Charley Herr set early pace, Arion led early heats, Grattan Boy failed to sustain. Crescens, driven by Ketcham, later claimed the two-heat, three-heat, five-heat and eight-heat records, while Cresceus showed speed but fell short in the decisive stretch. Massachusetts Militia Rifle Teams Hold Annual Fall Trophy Meet

Welfare conditions for rifle shooting were ideal at Walnut Hill for the Massachusetts militia regimental and corps teams. The Yellow Ribbon event among cavalry troops was won by Troop F Chelmsford with 58, Troop A 663, Troop D 661. Sergeant John Barrows led Troop A with 64. Cavalry squads each fielded ten men shooting 15 shots at 200 yards. Corps and regimental contests also ran at 200 and 600 yards, with First Heavy Artillery posting 666 and other units trailing.

Middlesex Fast Fair Attracts 12000 At Agricultural Park

The Middlesex Fast Fair drew about 12,000 visitors to Agricultural Park in Stoneham on Sept. 27. Highlights included B. R. Houghton winning first prize in matched driving horses, 120 bench entries, a successful automobile display, and lively horse races. Kentucky Frank won the 2:23 trot with best time 2:27.5, while Mary C. and Paper Boy battled in the 2:35 pace, Mary C. taking first after a heat loss, best time 2:22.5.

Nason Wins Tufts Run In Cross Country Match

Medford Sept 27 The Tufts College cross country meet attracted a large squad including many freshmen. R. E. Nason 03 of Jamaica Plain won the race from Arlington to West Medford and back to the gym via Medford Square with August I. Errickson 01 of Lawrence finishing second and Lawrence M. Price 03 of Medford third. The field remained tightly bunched at the end.
