Hartford Sept. 27 executors of the will of Mrs Mary Jeanett Keney widow of Walter Keney of Hartford have distributed the estate and paid 48422.25 as collateral inheritance tax to the State This is the largest single payment made under the inheritance tax law in Connecticut.
In Back Bay district a man was arrested for assault after two girls, daughters of prominent local businessmen, reported an insult and attempted abduction on their way home from school. The suspect, named James Riley, was identified by the elder girl at the station and again by the younger, with police noting similar complaints in the area. Riley denies the allegations but offers no credible explanation for being near Dundee street.
Washington September 27 forecast for Thursday calls for fair weather in New England and eastern New York with variable winds.
Fadie Driscoll aged 15 of 4 Short Street Court Charlestown was arrested yesterday for stealing $20 from John Harrison of 9 Neal Court Charlestown. Michael O Connor aged 16 of 9 Everett Street Charlestown was arrested yesterday afternoon for stealing a gold hunting case watch valued at $7 from Michael Rogers of 9 Everett Street Charlestown in Donegal Square on Tuesday evening.

New London Conn Sept 27 A Consolidated road heavy freight engine 92 plunges from Shaw's Cove bridge into the mud and water after a derailed switch. Engineer Fred Fitch Fireman Henry Guile and Brakeman Sidney Chappell escape with serious bruises. The engine and tender appear totally wrecked. damages await inspection.
Thomas Owens, 21, was stabbed on South Margin near Pitts in West End. He named Joseph Signora, 33, as the assailant at Massachusetts General Hospital where he was treated. Police detained Ralph Prenne 36 and Michael Rucci 45, later joined by Signora and others.
The Rev H J Patrick pastor of Second Congregational Church West Newton retires after 33 years of service, half his lifetime. His resignation was sent to the church committee yesterday as he faces failing eyesight. Patrick, born Warren Sept 20 1827, educated at Warren Wilbraham Amherst, Amherst College 1848, Andover Seminary 1858, served as General Court representative 1857 8 and as Army of the Potomac Christian Commission delegate at City Point Va 1865.
A wake at 4 Bay State Place in South Boston for Martin Conley’s mother sparked an altercation between Conley and his wife. The quarrel toppled a table and a lamp, a passerby alerted Box 136 at 6:29 PM. Firefighters arrived but were not needed.
Humphrey Donovan aged three was arrested by North End police for larceny of a trunk valued at 75 dollars containing a bank book for 111 dollars and receipts from Mary E Bibbey of 12 Garden Court Street. The youth entered via open door and was found with the trunk. property recovered.
Michael McGinley age 33 was arrested yesterday afternoon by a Division 1 officer on a charge of assaulting John J Green with a knife at the Hotel Ludwig Tuesday night. McGinley lives at 34 Tileston Street.
Dedham September 27. The jury in the Colburn murder case began deliberations at 3 50 p m and returned a guilty verdict at 9 22 p m. Sentence was deferred to the December term due to Colburns feeble condition. Frederick Glover and James McIntosh posted 2000 securities for his appearance.
Attleboro reports Sanford L. Wood still in Taunton county jail awaiting $2000 bond. District Court due Saturday will likely bind him over for the next Superior Court session. Mrs. Wood denies heard water sounds and claims the threats were not anonymous, while relatives pursue more evidence and potential libel action against the Sun.

Naval authorities report the warship Roosalka, last seen near Reval, lost with 200 crew after likely striking a sunken rock. Rescue ships found wreckage confirming the disaster near the Gulf of Finland between Reval and Helsingfors.
The McGuinness vitriol throwing case jury sought guidance on a lesser charge then found itself deadlocked and discharged. Ballots showed nine to three for acquittal, then ten to two after one juror shifted, a verdict viewed as a victory for the defendant.
Dover New Hampshire September 27 jury in Levy trial returns verdict of manslaughter in the second degree. Attorney General Eastman moves for sentence but defense requests deferment until Edgerly is present. Edgerly is sent for and then sentenced to eight years in State prison.
Miss Carrie Clarke of East Dedham was among the reported victims of a Kingsbury Indiana railroad wreck but her relatives learned she rode the first section safely. Her uncle E N Brown of Milton Street printed that Carrie wrote she reached safety and did not know about the second section wreck until hours later.
The fall excursion party of the Appalachian Mountain Club will depart Fitchburg station Wednesday at 9 a.m. bound for Ashfield Massachusetts where a week will be spent. Tickets may be secured at Room 17 No 9 Park Street on Friday and Saturday after 10 a.m.
The Portland steamer will depart at Q o clock on Monday next, instead of 7.
James B. Carroll, born in Lowell January 10, 1856, educated at Holy Cross College, Worcester, admitted to the bar in 1880, practiced in Springfield. He served on the Democratic State central committee executive board, spoken often for the party, and was city solicitor of Springfield under Mayor Maynard, regarded as a leading Massachusetts lawyer.
Marlboro native James W McDonald serves on the school committee and as special justice of the Police Court and held House service in 1880 and Senate in 1891 2. He chaired judiciary probate and insolvency and constitutional amendments committees and was named gas commissioner after Colonel Coveney resigned while being urged as a lieutenant governor candidate.
Eben S Stevens of Dudley seeks the treasurer’s post. Born in Dudley in 1846 he is a woollen manufacturer and nephew of Moses T Stevens congressman. He has served in town offices with distinction and has been a member of the Legislature since 1892.
John T. Wheelwright of Boston is named auditor. Born in Roxbury on February 26, 185, he attended the Latin School, graduated from Harvard in 1876 and from Harvard Law School in 1878, admitted to the bar in 1879, and has practiced law since. He has served on Governor Russell's staff for three years and is deeply interested in militia matters.
Charles S Lilley, born in Lowell on December 13 1851, was admitted to the bar in 1877 and served in Lowell city government. He sat in the Massachusetts Senate in 1880 1881 and 1886 and declined a mayoral nomination. In the Senate he joined the judiciary committee and the Day case special committee and helped with the statutes revision commission.
