Allied forces press along a 40 mile front with Americans advancing northwest of Verdun and along the Meuse on the first day. French units west of the American sector gain five miles as Gen. Gouraud directs efforts to turn the Hindenburg Line and push German forces toward Laon.
Last night Massachusetts appealed to the nation for doctors and nurses to combat further spread of influenza. Acting Governor Coolidge sent a message to President Wilson seeking aid and support.
Report states American forces have captured twelve towns along the Meuse River as operations advance. The initiative follows earlier breakthroughs and aligns with broader Allied push in the region.
Field Marshal Foch launches a major Cham pagne front offensive. American and French troops push along a 40 mile line and reach four to seven miles depth by day’s end. Pershing reports seven miles average advance on the right with 12 towns and 5000 prisoners taken. French left advances four to five miles with several thousand prisoners and multiple towns captured.
