The case hints at a long swindling history. In Eugene, brokers Jackson and Polhamus are jailed over Hodge defalcation with $25,000 bail each. They claim innocence. Connecticut Jury Awards Widow Full Policy Sum In Maine Case

In Hartron Connecticut on September 26 the U S Circuit Court returned a verdict for Mrs Gay recovering the full five thousand dollars plus interest in the Union Mutual Life Insurance policy case. The verdict followed arguments over death by own action and insanity defenses related to Sheridan Gay’s 1869 suicide on a rail car route between Hartford and Providence. The decision, amid broader court actions, also covers jurisdiction disputes over bankrupt estates and southern boundary lines of Connecticut affecting island and shore claims along Long Island Sound. The judges emphasized exclusive Massachusetts control over a certain bankruptcy administration and affirmed Connecticut’s boundaries extending from Fisher's Island to Lyon's Point with related island inclusions.
