New Orleans reports a failed assassination attempt on President Diaz during Mexico's national celebration. A volley of musketry erupted as Diaz appeared on the palace piazza. he retreated to safety. Forty conspirators were involved, fifteen jailed, others fleeing, and the government suppresses news in Mexico.
Patrick O'Brien and John Morley lead Nationalists to Tipperary court as police clash with crowds. The mob presses doors, fights with batons, and suffers wounds while Morley, Dillon, Healy, and O'Brien demand public access. Court permits bail for O'Brien amid protests. A Bar Harbor express train derailed after leaving a bridge in Lewiston Maine. The engine tender and one car were smashed but all passengers remained unharmed though shaken. The incident occurred as the train approached the city with no injuries reported.
