Four Warships Bombard Olangapo For Four Hours

In a four hour bombardment off Subig Bay the Monterey Charleston Concord and Zafiro pounded Olangapo while Marines and sailors landed east of the town. They captured a muzzle loading field piece and destroyed an insurgent cannon a 16 centimeter Krupp gun. Some fire damaged parts of the town and one American was wounded.

Spanish Riot Hits Ferrol Town Center

A mob of 300 stoned the principal Catholic club and the town hall in Ferrol Spain last evening smashing windows. Municipal guards were repulsed with eleven injured along with civilians. A mounted gendarme squad dispersed the rioters and martial law was proclaimed.

Trial of the Kearsarge Sets Speed Test Record

The new battleship Kearsarge will undergo a speed only test with no battery or turret testing. Chief Engineer Roelker oversees observations from 12 assistants as 33 miles are marked by six buoys and tidal readings every 15 minutes. Eleven observation stations will track the voyage with Scorpion and several ships aiding, and a second trial is possible if needed.
