Grand naval parade expected to be the finest ever seen in America with 150,000 spectators afloat. Dewey and Croker to act, total of 40,500 seats on the stand will cost $74,000.
All major arrangements for welcoming Admiral Dewey are set with remains of minor details. Tickets totalling about 20 000 have been allocated while applications reach 160 000. Arch construction, crowd control, and committee finances hover near key milestones as 150 000 spectators are anticipated afloat.
The Princess Cantacuzene, former Miss Julia Dent Grant, eldest daughter of Brigadier General Frederick D. Grant, is 23, born at the White House, educated in Vienna, fluent in French and German with Russian study, graceful and dignified, a longtime society figure in New York, Newport, and Bar Harbor.
In a four hour bombardment off Subig Bay the Monterey Charleston Concord and Zafiro pounded Olangapo while Marines and sailors landed east of the town. Gloucester reports a favorable forecast for the Kearsarge trial trip tomorrow though a strong northeast wind will likely bring heavy seas. All mark boats have reported ready for the event.
The new battleship Kearsarge will undergo a speed only test with no battery or turret testing. Chief Engineer Roelker oversees observations from 12 assistants as 33 miles are marked by six buoys and tidal readings every 15 minutes. Eleven observation stations will track the voyage with Scorpion and several ships aiding, and a second trial is possible if needed.
Rear Admiral Rodgers hosts Captain Robley D. Evans known as Fighting Bob aboard a tour of the city yesterday after noon. Evans joined the party and enjoyed a casual walk through town before continuing on page six.
