Prices range from 22 cents to $1 per bushel while rot and grubs cut into production. growers urged not to rush selling as prices may rise.
Washington reports the time of Mr. Coon as acting secretary of the treasury expired at the close of business today. All duties requiring the secretary's signature, contracts, bonds, and warrants will be in abeyance until an appointment is made, with brief disruption not expected to injure public interests but longer delays possible. The continental National Bank of Boston gains extended existence to Sept 28, 1904. Metropolitan National Bank of New York reduces circulation by depositing 1,259,900 in lawful money from 14,000,000 in bonds. the Treasury acting secretary purchases a painting of former secretary Charles J Folger by Eastman Johnson.
The Elizabeth home on Main street, brick 60 by 46 with an ell, opened with 400 guests. It will hold 50 children but starts with 17, funded by J. J. Marsh and Sister Mary F. Ames. Dedicatory rites featured Scripture by children, singing, keys presented by Marsh, mayoral address, and debt free status. Lelyan Robinson injured at Boston and Maine depot archway after a fall from a car.
Sandwich Massachusetts Sept 15 The Barnstable county agricultural fair concluded its second and final day drawing about 5000 visitors from across the region. Exhibitions were solid peaches pears and grapes were praised while stock showed a lighter display. About 300 dined as Gov Robinson spoke on county farming profits and progress followed by Congressman Davis. Horse races and a grand ball closed the program. pundits call the fair a financial success.
In Saratoga N Y this morning Rev B R Bulkley of Concord Mass led religious exercises. Standing committees reported on delegate representation from churches and declared against denominational recognition of the Wade school at Cleveland. A resolution named that the conference be represented at the foreign conference next year. Essays on Congregationalism were read by Rev Joseph H Willison of Cambridge and Dr Brooke Herford of Boston, followed by a discussion.
Newton New Jersey September 24 Black Hawk Adams was sentenced to state prison for 15 years on a charge of abduction after eloping with Amanda Ayers a Beamersville schoolgirl on April 30 in a high profile crime case weighing on the community July through September and triggering local legal action.
