Police Commissioner Curtis and a high legal authority denied overnight reports that Boston policemen would return to work by Saturday. They said the plan hinges on a special legislative act and noted no immediate resolution.

Partial returns show Burrell leading with plurality gaps among Greenwood Kerr and Pierce across 1193 precincts counted. Place names unclear due to OCR errors but totals cite 38 788 for Burrell and 15 406 for Geenwood Kerr Pierce and 6 645 for Bayar across 1134 to 1193 precincts.
In the election, 50,490 votes were tallied for governor with 10,794 and 3,667 in other counts across 50,490? precincts reported. Election results cover 343 of 354 cities and towns from 1193 precincts in the state.
