City and state officials will pay last tribute to Postmaster William Murray. His funeral will be at 9 o clock in St Marys Church Charles town. The post office building will close at certain hours except Weather Bureau and clerks offices to honor the late post master.

Fire at New Willard Hotel in Washington

Fire swept through the New Willard Hotel in Washington early today forcing over a thousand guests to rush outside in scant attire. Vice-President Marshall, several Senators and other government officials were in residence as flames began in the kitchen and spread to the Palm Room, contained by firefighters with damage from water and smoke.

Dry bill passes House 171 to 34 in war prohibition rider

The House approved the Senate prohibition rider to the $12,000,000 emergency agricultural appropriation bill by a 171 to 34 vote. The measure, effective July 1 during the war period, now goes to conference to resolve differences between houses.

General Pershing notified the War Department that Captain Pierre H. Hendrick and Corporal Jean Baptiste Carrere of the French army received the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism while attached to American divisions.
