Blackmail Allegations Against Police Captain Amid Trial
In a Police Commission trial, Victor Bremsen testified Capt. McCulloch tried to blackmail him after Bremsen paid money to avoid trouble at his Rye Beach hotel formerly run as a restaurant in town. Lawyer John D. Townsend claimed to counsel Bremsen and said the deal was arranged, but McCulloch later disrupted Bremsen’s business, prompting his move to Rye Beach. Also reports advance on coal prices with several lines delaying shipments for two weeks to focus on Western and local trade.
